The intermediate clutch discs are made of high-carbon steel, and the core plates are made of aluminum, steel, high-temperature resistant plastics, or phenolic resin-based fiber, depending on the clutch design. This friction material is aligned on the core plates to generate torque in the engine. The clutch operates on the principle of friction. Two friction surfaces come into contact; when a force is applied during engagement, they engage due to the friction between them and transmit power from the engine to the gearbox and, subsequently, to the drive wheels.
